Jesus is our Advocate

Have you ever felt such guilt and shame that you felt you couldn’t face anyone? Satan is the accuser of the brethren, and when you fail or do something wrong, he is a master at piling on the guilt. Sin makes you want to hide from God. However, there is great news! Jesus Christ is your Advocate!

There is only one place in the Bible where the word, “advocate’’ is used and that is in 1 John chapter 2 and verse 1. It says, “My little children, I write to you that you sin not. But if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.”

It seems difficult to come boldly before God when you know you have done wrong, let alone tell him what you’ve done and ask forgiveness.

In a courtroom an attorney acts as an advocate. He ‘’speaks on behalf of” his client. Jesus Christ speaks to God the Father on behalf of His children. When you can’t speak for yourself, He will. There is only one thing He asks of you and that is complete honesty. The attorney calls it, “full disclosure”.

In Bible terms, Jesus says, “If you have sinned, come to Me and I will advocate for you. All I ask is that you are honest, or in other words, confess your sin to Me.” I’ve watched movies about attorney and clients and it is amazing to me that a client wouldn’t give full disclosure! Yet God’s people struggle with ‘full disclosure’. Confessing sin is much better than ‘hiding sin’. Jesus is on your side and He is good! You can trust Him and He will fight for you.
